Worsley Institute in New Orleans10/23/2007 by Diane Macchiavelli: The Worsley Institute (WI) was represented well at the first combined American Association of Oriental Medicine (AAOM) and the Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Alliance’s (AOMAlliance) Reunification Conference, held at the Convention Center Hampton Inn in New Orleans in mid-May. These two combined organizations are now under one banner, American Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (AAAOM). WI had an exhibit booth set up throughout the entire conference where conference attendees could purchase books, inquire about our various educational programs, and most importantly, have good quality, one-on-one time with Nancy (Selvaggio) Robertson, 3rd year student at the Institute for Taoist Education and Acupuncture (ITEA), Emily Calvert, Worsley Institute for Classical Acupuncture (WICA) V, Diane Macchiavelli, WICA VIII and Mary Ellen Klee, College of Traditional Acupuncture (CTA), 1979. Practitioners and other acupuncture supporters that attended the various organizational meetings that were held throughout the conference and who were curious about Classical Five-Element Acupuncture were able to have their questions answered, pick up materials and learn about our various and growing educational opportunities. In addition to the exhibit booth, WI sponsored an evening reception with fabulous New Orleans-style food and libations that was added to and attended by the AAAOM Board leadership and others. During that reception, WI showed a DVD of J.R. Worsley, as keynote speaker at the historic 1984 Conference in Maryland sponsored by then Traditional Acupuncture Institute (TAI, now Tai Sophia). Floyd Herdrich, TAI 1983, and Mary Ellen Klee introduced the DVD and answered questions afterwards. J.R.’s talk, given, over 20 years ago, stimulated a lot of comment by all present. AAAOM Executive Director, Bekah Christensen stated afterwards, “This DVD should be in the library of every acupuncture school in the United States and should be in the curriculum of every first year acupuncture class.” J.R.’s message has even more relevancy today as acupuncture becomes more mainstream in our country. Other Worsley Institute affiliated participants to the conference were Janet Rockers, ITEA graduate, Sandra Lillie, WICA IV and current president and founder of ITEA, , CTA, 1982 and Director, ITEA, Claudia O’Neill, Director of Operations and Registrar, ITEA, Mary Able, ITEA graduate and Regina Walsh, TAI graduate and former president of AOMAlliance, and Barbara Ellrich, Vice-President for Clinical Services at TAI/SOPHIA. You can read more about the New Orleans conference at AAAOM. WI is increasing its participation at the October 18 — 22, 2007 Conference, Strength Through Unification that will be held in Portland, OR. It is the 25th Anniversary of AAAOM so they are planning a silver jubilee celebration in addition to their usual offerings. If you are interested in participating in this Conference, please contact Diane Macchiavelli at qistream@earthlink.net.
